Although this question was posed to us over the holiday season, we still feel it appropriate to share, because life is too short for "Dry January". How about "Good Judgement 24/7"?
In today's pandemic climate, we think this cocktail is a great way to make sparkling wine even more festive and beautiful to drink, any time of year. Our friend Billie-Ann tried our cocktail suggestion and sent us this amazing photo with her feedback: "It was great!"
Try it sometime yourselves. If you have a question, feel free to email us at info@quve.ca - we'd love to hear from you.
Keep calm and sparkle on, folks!
Debbie,
I need some help with creating a Christmas cocktail. I have a dry sparkling white. I was thinking of adding cranberry juice, cranberries... What do you think of orange juice? Spices?
Billie-Ann
Hi Billie-Ann,
Great idea! Do you have bitters? This sounds counterintuitive, but you may find the cocktail yummier with a couple drops of bitters plus a touch of simple syrup or honey.
How about making some cinnamon simple syrup, put a teaspoon or so in a glass, add a couple drops of bitters plus a shot or two of cran or OJ, then top with sparkling?
Cheers!
Debbie
RECIPE: Sparkling Holiday (or Any Day) Cocktail
Cinnamon simple syrup (keeps indefinitely in a sealed, refrigerated container)
Over very low heat, gently dissolve a few tablespoons of sugar in about a cup of water with a cinnamon stick in it, constantly stirring to avoid burning. Allow mixture to thicken slightly to about the texture of runny hand sanitizer, without turning into caramel (if the mixture starts to change colour, stop immediately). If it gets too sticky, stir in more water gradually. Turn off heat once completed and chill the mixture (including cinnamon stick) in a container to infuse for a day or two.
Cocktail
To assemble cocktail, follow instructions above. You can strengthen the cocktail with the addition of half a shot of a favourite spirit or liqueur, or, dilute the cocktail to make a longer drink by topping up additionally with more juice or sparkling water.
Philippe Schaeffer's Cremant d'Alsace is a wonderful quality sparkling wine well suited for this type of drink. Check it out and let us know what you think. Cheers!
